The two have competed in numerous Ironman competitions locally, but it is the first time either have raced overseas. The trip came about after Garth & Gary were awarded entry slots into the prestigious Kona event in recognition of the work they have done with the charity they started, Ironman 4 the Kidz. The charity raises funds for underprivileged children in the Eastern Cape through the Ironman South Africa even hosted in Port Elizabeth. It has raised over R6 million since it's inception in 2005.

The self-funded trip was a dream come true for both. Kona is where the Ironman begun 35 years ago, and is the benchmark for all the Ironman events globally, being renowned as the toughest - thanks to a course that sees competitors run through the lava fields and battle the notorious Kona winds.

Whilst in Hawaii, Garth & Gary met with the Ironman Foundation to discuss a possible synergy between it and the Ironman 4 the Kidz charity. The Ironman Foundation was established in 2003 as a way for Ironman to leave a little piece of legacy behind in communities where the Ironman Events.

Gary completed the race in a time of 13h02, and Garth in 13h39.

A tea was held at the office to wish everyone Happy Birthday, with lovely eats supplied by Patty McWilliams from PatAsh catering.

Gavin organised some fine musical performances from the staff - Sipho on the sax, Ryan on the trumpet, Carreen on the tamborine, Allie on something (we'll still trying to work out what!), Gary on the music box and Tania with her electric guitar. Let's just say we're lucky everyone already has a job and won't need to look for careers as musicians!!

Wright Surveillance celebrated the completion of their new Server Room on Friday 20 July. This is a dedicated climate-controlled and secure server room that provides the IT for the newly expanded control room.

Wright Surveillance Director Garth Wright said "I am proud of my team for successfully completing this complex installation. The new Server Room ensures the seamless operation of our expanded Central Control Room, allowing us to continue providing our clients with exceptional off-site CCTV monitoring services."

Minister of Energy, Dipuo Peters, was the key note speaker and gave an interesting speech about the countries desire to embrace nuclear energy as South Africa's preferred energy source in the future.

Wright Surveillance is proud to announce it's achievement of BBBEE Level 1 status. This was awarded on the 10 April 2012, and verified by Grant Thornton Verification Services, a SANAS accredited verification agency.

Director Garth Wright says that BBBEE is not only about compliance, but also about "being committed to the broader community in which we operate."

Garth goes on to state that it is a double win for Wright Surveillance clients; not only do they receive top quality empowered service, but as Wright Surveillance is a Value Added Supplier our clients are now also able to claim 168% of the value spend with us as BEE procurement.

Garth attributes the leap from Level 3 to Level 1 Value Added Supplier status to substantial improvements in the company's Skills & Enterprise Development programs, which lie at the heart of Wright Surveillance's ongoing initiatives.

Garth Wright and Gary Stephenson attended the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona in February.

Far more than a mere communication device, mobiles now serve as our books, health monitors, payment transfer devices, social connectors and tour guides. Mobile technology is embedded in our cars, homes, appliances, governments and utilities. The Mobile World Congress 2012 celebrated the current state of mobile and offered a glimpse into where mobile has the potential to go next.

The GSMA’s industry-defining event again shattered attendance records as more than 67,000 attendees showcased how they are Redefining Mobile. This year’s exciting event, hosted in the Mobile World Capital Barcelona, featured attendees from 205 countries were treated to a wealth of learning and networking opportunities; product showcases and announcements; inspiration and innovation.

Nearly 1,500 companies showcased their organisations through exhibition stand and hospitality space across eight halls at Fira Montjuïc. Visiting the exhibition halls provided glimpses of exciting new phones, tablets, technologies, applications, back-end solutions, accessories and more.

Between the GSMA Pavilion in Hall 8, the Connected House in The Courtyard and several initiatives in Hall 2, the GSMA highlighted several important initiatives benefitting the industry, including Mobile Money, Mobile Health and Embedded Mobile.
